Maksim
Ivanov (Onegin): Baritone Maksim Ivanov is quickly establishing himself in the roles of Marcello and Schaunard in La Boheme, Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte,
Dandini in La Cenerentola, Onegin in Eugene Onegin, Malatesta in Don Pasquale, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Robert in Tchaikovsky's Iolanta, and Ford in Falstaff. He has performed with such companies as Glimmerglass Opera, the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Connecticut Grand Opera, Opera Theatre of Connecticut, Opera Providence, Boheme Opera of New Jersey, Sanibel Music Festival, Ash-Lawn Highland Festival, among others. Recent engagements have included Dr. Malatesta in Don Pasquale with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Dandini in La Cenerentola with Opera Providence, Marcello in La Boheme with Boheme Opera, Marullo in Rigoletto with the Opera Theater of Connecticut, and Guglielmo in Cosi fan tutte with Salt Marsh Opera. Mr. Ivanov received his BA and MMA from Yale University and recently completes his Doctoral program at SUNY Stony Brook.
Laurentiu
Rotaru (Prince Gremin): Bass-baritone Laurentiu Rotaru is a native of Romania currently residing in Hartford. His credits with CLO include Mephistopheles in Faust, Leporello in Don Giovani, Friar Laurent in Roméo et Juliette, Benoir and Alcindoro in La Boheme, Zuniga in Carmen and Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and has also performed Il Comandatore in Don Giovanni, as Mr. Jenks in The Tender Land, and as Dr. Grenvil in the La Traviata. He has toured USA and Canada, performing as a soloist of a choir composed of students and graduates of the Theological Institute of Bucharest. He started his intensive music training at The Conservatory of Bucharest - Romania and he performed for one year at The National Opera of Bucharest. He also was a soloist of the "Divine Harmony" choir of Bucharest, touring Romania, Greece, and Italy. He took the Second Prize at The National Association of Teachers of Singing (Connecticut Chapter) competition.
Chad Karl (Germont): Baritone Chad Karl made a triumphant CLO debut last season as Dr. Falke in the hilarious Die Fledermaus, and his many roles include Marcello and Schaunard in La Boheme, Papageno in The Magic Flute, Silvio in Pagliacci, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Belcore in L’Elixir d’Amore, Gugliemo in Cosi fan Tutti, Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Valentin in Faust, Angelotti in Tosca, Don Giovanni, Escamillo in Carmen, Marullo in Carmen and Cascada in The Merry Widow. He was performed with Tulsa Opera, Jacksonville Lyric Opera, Opera Company of the Highlands, the Belleayrne Music Festival, Union Avenue Opera and the Bronx Opera. Upcoming productions include Silvio with Opera in the Highlands, Schaunard with Grandview Opera, the title role of Macbeth and Ford in Falstaff, both in Houston for Opera in the Heights.
Eliomar Nascimento (Dr. Grenvil): Brazilian Bass Eliomar Nascimento was praised by the Boston Herald as the owner of a "Deep, lush voice", is a sensitive interpreter of opera, chamber music and oratorio. At the Municipal Theater of Rio de Janeiro he has appeared in productions of La Traviata, La Bohème, I Pagliacci, Elektra, and Salome under the baton of Gabor Ötvös, among others. He toured for five Brazilian capitals with Opera Brazil as Don Rodrigo in Carlos Gomes’ Lo Schiavo. Mr. Nascimento has a Master’s degree in Vocal Performance at Boston University and was a Soloist Member of the Opera Institute at the same institution. His engagements with Boston University Opera Institute productions have included the Puppet Master in Dominick Argento’s Postcard from Morocco, Tobermory in Jorge Martin’s Tobermory, Publio in Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito and Figaro in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Pedro in Berlioz’s Beatrice et Benedict, and Don Alfonso in Mozart’s Così fan tutte.
Stewart Battle (Barone Douphol): Baritone Stewart Battle has sung with numerous groups in Australia and the eastern US including the Opera Festival of New Jersey, Promusica of NJ, Spoleto Festival of Australia, Baltimore Opera, Southern MD Choral Society, Opera Ebony, Nevilla Ottley Singers, and the Bach Society of Washington, D.C. Some performances include First Man in Susannah, Jailor in Tosca, Joe in Show Boat, Undertaker Jim in Porgy & Bess, Alcade and Surgeon in La Forza Del Destino, Pontius Pilate in St. Mathew Passion, Don Alfonso in Cosi Fan Tutte, Balthazar in Ahmal and the Night Visitors and Dr King in Premier of Dr King, as well as Duke in Romeo and Juliet and Monterone in Rigoletto with CLO.
Skip Wilson (Zaretsky,Marchese): Baritone Skip Wilson has performed in a number of productions with the Connecticut Lyric Opera including Don Giovanni, Le Nozze di Figaro, and Roméo et Juliette. Skip made his solo début playing the role of Elder McLean in CLO’s production of Susannah, and most recently he performed as Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus. Skip also sings with the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Chorus (ECSC) and studies voice with Jurate Svedaite-Waller. A resident of Quaker Hill, Skip is the Associate Director of Annual Giving at Connecticut College.
